About the Role

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will be a combined position with basketball coordinator requiring a flexible schedule over evenings and weekends during basketball season. Daytime requirements will be to report to Teen Center Director to help plan, prepare, and execute daily programming for the Teen Center. Teen programming hours are 2-6 pm daily and will require this position to lead activities during these times.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Education, Experience & Skills
• High School diploma or GED.
• Experience in working with children.
• Knowledge of youth development.
• Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
• Ability to deal with the general public.
• Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
• Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
• Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
• Valid State Driver’s License
• Ability to plan and implement fun and exciting quality programs for youth.
• Strong communication skills, understanding of group dynamics.
• Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities.

KEY ROLES

Assist Teen Center Director with daily planning, executing daily activities for teens, cleaning, setting up and breaking down of equipment. Will also be required to help prepare and serve daily snack to teens. Positive interaction with teens on a daily basis will be required. Other duties may be required for day-to-day needs of the program.

• promote and stimulate program participation;
• participate in new club member’s orientation process;
• provide guidance and role modeling to members.

Program Development and Implementation
2. Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for drop-in members and visitors.
3. Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times. Prepare periodic activity reports.

Supervision
4. Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly branch staff meetings.

Basketball Assistant Competency Areas:

1. Plan and oversee the administration of Basketball programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes:
2. Establish Basketball program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
3. Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
4. Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.
Program Development and Implementation
1. Establish and maintain Basketball program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members. Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; that they ensure program areas are safe, well-ventilated and well lit; and that club equipment is maintained in good working condition.



Supervision
1. Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal. Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.
2. Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.
3. Ensure productive and effective performance by basketball program volunteers.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position could include mentoring of teens through our Club Teen Mentor program. This would require additional weekly tracking and documentation. Minor day-to-day activities will include program details. This position will require leading various creative, physical, and emotional learning opportunities for students.
1. May participate in special programs and/or events.
2. May be required to drive Club van.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
